Why do animals eat one kind of plant and not another? Why is there so much variation in these types of decisions? We investigate interactions between herbivores and plants to understand animal foraging decisions in mammals and insects.

 

 

Foraging decisions in deer species

The interactions between plants and herbivores are among the most important and intriguing in nature and the scientific field of plant-herbivore interactions is rapidly developing. We investigate foraging psychology and small to medium scale foraging decisions in fallow deer (Dama dama), red deer (Cervus elaphus) and moose (Alces alces).

Butterfly host search

We investigate the behavioral aspects of host- butterfly associations by studying butterfly host search and oviposition strategy. We investigate effects of factors such as host range, age of the host-butterfly association, host quality and previous experience on female and larval search behavior, host acceptance and preference.
