The Faculty of Science at Stockholm University has decided to distribute nine million Swedish crowns per year for five years to six young researchers active within the faculty. The researchers have been selected based on their potential to become nationally leading and internationally distinguished within their areas. Göran Östlin, professor and director at the Department of Astronomy, is one of the selected researchers.

Göran Östlin's research concerns galaxies, their properties and origin. He has primarily studied the properties of young galaxies to learn about how the first galaxies formed when the universe was young. For his studies he is using powerful telescopes, like the Hubble Space Telescope, for which he has been the predominant Swedish user.
