Study astronomy

Are you interested in studying astronomy? Below, you will find all the information you need.

Courses

The Department of Astronomy offers courses on all different levels. For people interested in astronomy, but with no previous studies in physics or mathematics, we have a number of introductory courses (generally given in Swedish). We also offer courses on Bachelor, Master and PhD student level. The Bachelor courses can be taken separately from any degree programme, provided the student has all the necessary prerequisites. For more information, see the courses page.

Degree programmes

Since 2007, we offer a Master's programme in Astronomy, leading to a Master of Science degree in Astronomy. As all Master's programmes, this is a 2-year programme (120 ECTS credits) available after completing a Bachelor's degree.

The Bachelor's degree programme is largely taught in collaboration with the Bachelor's programme at the Department of Physics, Fysikum, and provides a solid base for advanced studies in physics or astronomy. The astronomy programme, however, is especially suited for students who want to study astronomy already at the Bachelor's degree level. Upon completing the programme, students obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Astronomy.

For more information, see degree programmes.
