Study abroad

Studying for one or two semesters abroad provides a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with a new academic environment. Besides that, you also gain new experiences, come into contact with a new culture, and perhaps even meet friends for life.

For visits regulated by agreements between universities (so-called central agreements) rather than between departments there may be extra requirements.

Where can I go?

The Department of Astronomy has agreements with several universities, mainly in Europe. Stockholm University also has central agreements (available to all students at the university) with universities around the world. The agreements are collected in a database, which you can check to get an idea of which countries you can go to. If there is no agreement in astronomy with a university you would like to go to, perhaps another department has an agreement. In that case, we can contact that department and inquire if you can make an exchange through their agreement. At the bottom of the page you find a list of all the agreements at the Department of Astronomy.

The first step is therefore to contact our exchange coordinator (exchange@astro.su.se). Remember to do so well in advance!

If you are eligible for the study aid provided by CSN, you can continue to receive this support during your time as an exchange student. You can also apply for an extra loan to cover additional expenses incurred by the exchange (e.g., return air fare). Within the Erasmus+ programme, most students also receive a small scholarship via Stockholm University. If you go on an exchange through an agreement, you are automatically covered by the Student-UT insurance.

Agreements with The Faculty of Science
